For added security (and a neat and tidy appearance) whip all of your splices and rope ends with genuine Marlow No.4 (medium diameter) whipping twine. You might also need splicing scissors, needles, Sailors Palm and a lighter. As a general rule the length of the whipping should be equal to the the diameter of the rope to which the whipping is applied. And, the diameter of the whipping twine should be less than 1/8 the diameter of the rope being whipped.
