UK-based website helps New Zealand arb employers

Last weeks 'Asplundh' blog post regarding labor shortages in the NZ arb market has sparked a flood of comments from Treetools customers both in the store and over the phone - it appears every tree company in New Zealand is looking for staff!

Late last century (1999) the UK arb market was in a similar situation - arb jobs were hard to fill. Contributing to the problem was the lack of a specialized medium or 'jobs noticeboard' for advertising arboriculture situations vacant.

The void was soon filled by a website suitably titled arbjobs.com.

Now, thirteen years on arbjobs.com is helping tree work employers fill arb positions all across the world - even in little old New Zealand.

The closest equivalent local website offering this kind of service would be the 'situations vacant' section on NZ Arbor. As far as we know this is a free service provided to NZ Arbor members but we might be wrong.

According to arbjobs owner Nick Pott, the website attracts 12,000 worldwide visitors per month. With this volume of highly targeted traffic the chance of filling a position is probably very high so the £50 investment for a two-month posting would be money well spent.

Nick is careful to point out that arbjobs is a jobs noticeboard, not a arborist recruitment agency. Applicants make contact direct with the advertiser which means finders or placement fees are not payable - it's the cost of the advertisement only.

Baker Tree Services on the North Shore is currently advertising worldwide for an Arborist Climber using arbjobs. It might be worthwhile talking with Jon Baker to see how the system works if you are considering this medium when looking for staff.
