Tree consents: it ain't over 'til the fat lady sings!

Tree consents: it ain't over 'til the fat lady sings!

Richard Tregoweth - Friday, November 25, 2011

Auckland arborists planning to make hay while the sun shines (in January) may have to re-think their marketing plans: the Auckland City Council has advised arborists and property owners that resource consent may still be required for tree removal and/or severe pruning.

Due to a decision by the Environment Court a number of general tree rules will continue to be enforced by the Auckland City Council. That means you may still require resource consent from 1 January 2012 before you can carry out any tree work on properties.

The Council message is clear "CHECK BEFORE YOU CHOP!".

And checking is easy enough to do, simply visit the Auckland City Council website for basic information. Anything beyond that will require advice from the city council help desk.
