The following is an announcement from Thane Young, Health and Safety (Forestry), NZ Department of Labour:

"To put you all in the picture, there has been a tree felling fatality involving a arboriculture operation (today in Wellington). A groundsman has been fatally struck by a falling section of tree while it was being dismantled.

An investigation is currently underway and no details can be released at this stage, I envisage that an Accident Alert will be developed once the investigation process is completed".

As far as Treetools is aware this is the first arboriculture fatality recorded in New Zealand history. We'll publish more information from the Departmentof Labour and the NZAA as it becomes available.
