Most climbers in the New Zealand tree climbing community are aware of Drew Bristow and Johno Smith - their tree climbing stories are legendary!

Drew and Johno are number 6 and number 11 respectively in the New Zealand Top 20 tree climber rankings. Drew recently won the 2010 Singapore TCC Open and was number two in the 2010 ISAAC TCC preliminaries. Johno competed successfully in the 2010 Queensland TCC in August.

On viewing the Waitakare video, NZ adventure film maker Geoff Mackley commissioned Drew and Johno to accompany him to Ambrym Island, Vanuatu to film inside the very live, Marum volcano.

Geoff had undertaken thirteen previous film expeditions to Marum and had not been successful in getting footage quite this amazing - until now!

Tree climbers in a volcano? Yes, it certainly seems a bit odd.

However, there is a method in the madness. Geoff was looking for professional climbers who could quickly adapt to the environment. Rope skills and safety were also extremely important and these two Auckland tree climbing arborists fitted the bill!

Have a look at the full length video below and you'll see why Geoff got the right guys for the job - nothing short of amazing!
