Even more competition for Port-A-Wrap

Even more competition for Port-A-Wrap

Richard Tregoweth - Friday, July 16, 2010

The Port-A-Wrap has held a dominant position in the lowering device market for a long time but starting mid 2009 there have been a number of new alternatives on the market - mainly in the form of fixed bollards.

Reg Coates and the excellent Stein lowering device products opened the flood gates. New Zealand has its own version of fixed bollard in the popular PCRB from Pro Climb .

Now Woody Products in the UK have introduced yet another alternative. The big difference with the Woody appears to be in the way the straps are attached directly to the bollard. All other units have separate OEM straps supplied.

Due to the positioning of the pegs on the bollard, the Woody also allows for 220 degrees of use around the front (and sides) of the bollard which offers more flexibility when moving around the base of the tree. This seems to be a very wide operating angle - we don't believe other manufacturers claim this degree of wide-angle usage. The Woody is also CE marked which is important for the UK market for which it is targeted.
