Animal Rescue TV fame for Auckland arborist

Animal Rescue TV fame for Auckland arborist

Richard Tregoweth - Thursday, February 10, 2011

Tree climbers love their job because every day its different! When well-known Auckland arborist Zane Wedding set off to work yesterday he did not expect to be on TV rescuing a shag stranded in the branches of a Pohutakawa overhanging a cliff at Bucklands Beach, Auckland.

The SPCA had put in an urgent call to Treetools looking for a tree climber to rescue the shag.

Normally, this type of work is undertaken by Rossy Ross from Pro Climb who has a made a bit of a specialty in rescuing items from trees (animals, parachutes, gliders etc). In this case, Rossy was training climbers in the South Island, hence the call to Treetools.

Zane Wedding was in the Bucklands Beach area and immediately took up the challenge. What Zane did not know was that Animal Rescue would be on site with a full TV production crew! Thankfully, his first throwline landed on target and the shag was freed without incidence.

There's nothing boring about being a tree climber - what a job!
