Eye Size:

Whiptail sewn terminations are common on eye-to-eye friction cords and rope work positioning lanyards. Sewn terminations offer superior strength retention and improve safety while allowing full use of the line eye-to-eye. Whiptail sewn terminations are ideally suited to friction cords, kernmantle ropes, as well as 'used' climbing lines, ranging 8 mm to 14 mm in diameter (custom 16 mm available on request), but all ropes can have a sewn termination. Allow 200 mm for each sewn termination. Stitched by Treetools right here in New Zealand.

  • Keep in mind that a Whiptail Sewn Termination is a variable process, requiring approximately 200 mm of cordage (depending on eye specification). For instance, if you purcahse 3 m of rope for a lanyard and apply sewn terminations at each end, the stitched product will be shorter by 400 mm (approx.). All cordage measurements are nominal values; precise measurements are impractical due to variations in rope construction, stitch length, cord diameter and measurement methods. It's important to factor in these length variations when calculating your rope requirements.
