Auckland's new tree regulations, relative to the Resource Management Act, which came into effect on January 1, 2012 were designed to streamline and simplify the city's tree management process.
At this point (we can say with confidence) the streamline and simply objective has not been met.
To help Auckland city property owners and arborists gain a better understanding of city's new tree protection rules The Tree Council has organized a seminar on Saturday 24 March in the Grey Lynn Community Hall.
Speakers include Greenscene's Craig Webb (Auckland Regional TCC organizer) representing NZ Arbor, Joanna van den Bergen, a lawyer with Ellis Gould, and Celia Davidson and Michael Wood from the Auckland City Council.
Joanna will outline the changes to the RMA affecting trees, give a summary of the EC ruling, point out potential consequences of illegal tree removal and discuss the other forms of tree protection in and around Auckland.
Craig will outline the difficulties Auckland arborists are experiencing in trying to interpret the new rules to keep property owners and the Auckland City Council happy.
The seminar is free but The Tree Council would appreciate a gold coin donation at the door. The Grey Lynn Community Hall is 510 Richmond Road in Grey Lynn. The "Tree Rules - the full story" seminar will run from 2pm to 4pm, Saturday 24 March.
