Walsh Planter 'unpainted'

Walsh Planter 'unpainted'

Richard Tregoweth - Sunday, July 19, 2009

As noted previously in the Treetools blog the Walsh planter is a modified Spear & Jackson trenching spade. It is the result of many years of research and development with forestry planting contractors. One of the criteria applied to its development was the final price performance ratio: that is, the cost of spade versus its performance against other spades of similar design.

Obviously the selling price has to be comparable with others in the range. Every manufacturer knows a low cost price is paramount and we could achieve this by leaving the spade 'unfinished' - the Walsh retains the original baked enamel of the Spear & Jackson but the additional welds are left unpainted. In the commercial forestry environment this decision was considered perfectly acceptable.

If you are looking for a 'finished' spade to do your planting we suggest you purchase one of the other planting spades we have in our range.
