Not many arborists get to do tree work on DoC land in Fiordland. Some massive native trees around the huts in Doubtful Sound need work and the Department of Conservation has sought help from New Zealand arborists. Flown in by helicopter or landed by sea this is an arb adventure only available to a select few.
And you could be one of them!
Jerry's original plan was to take his Otago arb students in to the Sounds, along with some experienced arborists.
The Smith brothers from Auckland, Matt and Johno were called upon and a few Dunedin arborists including Sean Hancock, Byron Anderson and Dom Ritter were also planning to join the crew, offering valuable support and training.
But mother nature has changed the plans. Storms in and around Dunedin over last week have left trees on houses and other tree-related property damage so a couple of the Dunedin boys cannot make the trip.
This leaves a few slots open for others to take up the opportunity of a lifetime.
