Lubrication for secateurs and loppers

Lubrication for secateurs and loppers

One of our frequently asked questions is: what lubrication do I use for my secateurs and loppers? Liquid oil in not recommended since it tends to clog up the spring and pivot system after a relatively short period of use.

Treetools recommend graphite powder: this is a 'dry' solution to the problem. You can buy dry lubrication 'oil' in aerosol cans but it is wet when applied - the carrier then evaporates rapidly leaving a dry finish.

Graphite comes in a small puffer bottle and requires only a few squirts to get your secateurs or loppers running smoothly again. Graphite also makes excellent lubrication for carabiners… and locks…and fishing tackle…and trigger mechanisms.
