Gisborne 'Hackfalls' arborcamp the first camp for summer 2011

Richard Tregoweth - Friday, August 19, 2011

Load the weekend of November 12-13 into your iPhone! The Hackfalls Arboretum (Gisborne) is the first arborcamp/working bee planned for the summer of 2011.

Hackfalls Arboretum, home of the largest private collection of oaks in the world, is run by a charitable trust and they need some help. Loosely based on Jerry Lynch's successful southern arborcamp formula, Hackfalls Arborcamp centers around a combination of work and play.

Apart from the obvious benefits of camping and socializing with fellow arborists there is a training session/working bee planned for Saturday and Sunday.

Use of the DMM Hitch Climber to its full potential, SRT access and dynamic climbing with modern friction hitches will be covered off by experienced climbers before work commences each day and then your newly learned techniques can be applied as you go.

Friday is camp set up day and a communal BBQ (spit roast) is planned for Saturday night. Basic camping facilities are available on site. This is a family event, similar in format to the highly successful NTCA Pakaraka camp in Northland earlier in the year.

Hackfalls Arbrocamp is bought to you by Arborcare Tree Services, Gisborne and Pro Climb (Auckland).
